MP Impressed By Charity’s Work With Young People

MP Alistair Burt was quizzed on what he thought about online bullying when he met young supporters of Relate at the charity’s offices in Bedford.O

Alistair, MP for North East Bedfordshire, is pictured chatting with Relate ‘champions’ Ellen and Monae where they took the opportunity to check out the MP’s own relationship. Alistair is happily married and has two children.

They talked about Relate Bedfordshire and Luton’s growing work with young people and the MP was intrigued to learn that these days the local Relate centre provides counselling to more young people than adult individuals and couples.

Angela Foll, CEO of Relate Bedfordshire and Luton pointed out that Relate offers a range of services, including play therapy for children from 5 years, family counselling, coaching for individuals and life skills courses, which are taken up by individuals and companies to support their employees.

“That was quite some visit,” says the MP. “You don’t realise how much is going on within organisations like Relate until you get through the front door. Relate’s work with children and young people is so valuable, especially today when young people seem to be under so much pressure from peers, parental expectations, online exploitation, commercial interests and the like.”
