FREE counselling for people supporting a loved one with dementia

2 February 2017

We have secured funding to launch a FREE counselling service for people supporting loved ones with dementia.

We know that when you support someone with dementia your relationship changes and this can cause additional pressure, anxiety and worry. Having a professional relationship counsellor to talk to can help with these anxieties and support your own mental wellbeing and physical health.

The local Relate team are working with local public and voluntary organisations to promote the service. “Our service is designed to complement support services already available, for example from Carers in Bedfordshire and Alzheimer’s Society,” says Relate Bedfordshire and Luton CEO Angela Foll. “We are grateful to Tibbs Dementia Foundation for supporting the service and providing awareness training courses for our staff and counsellors.”

Relate’s FREE, confidential counselling for individuals, couples or families is offered face-to-face in a number of community venues or by telephone or Skype.

It is estimated that more than 5,000 people with dementia live in Bedfordshire. 12% have severe dementia. Three-quarters are cared for in the community.

People supporting loved ones with dementia who wish to access FREE counselling support should contact our friendly appointments team by phoning 01234 356350, or emailing
