Support for Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse

Our Approach

We recognise that it is not always safe to counsel clients who have domestic abuse within their relationship and ensure that the services we do offer are safe and appropriate.

Relate Northamptonshire are now able to offer the following support:

Choosing to Change

Choosing to Change is an intervention for male perpetrators of intimate partner violence and abuse, delivered in a one-to-one setting, where both partners want to remain in the couple relationship.

Choosing to Change is a twelve week intervention that includes assessment for suitability, a structured motivational programme and goal setting.

Support sessions are also provided for the wife/partner to ensure a safety plan is implemented and there is a good understanding of the programme itself. Once the programme has been successfully completed, and the couple have both actively engaged throughout, then there is potential to continue into couple counselling with a Relate Counsellor, if it is deemed safe to do so.

We have practitioners waiting to help you so don’t delay in taking the first steps to help strengthen your relationship.

Please give Ian or Suzanne a call for further information or email for details.

Please note: Choosing to Change has been written for male perpetrators of IPV but in the near future we hope to be able to offer the programme to female perpetrators and for those in same sex relationships.
